The Citizen Council for Safety and Justice in Mexico City Beware during the Day of the Dead Festivities
  • The Citizen Council invites you to enjoy a Day of the Dead Celebration in peace and safely

  • Salvador Guerrero Chipres, president of the Citizen Council, said that preventive actions may reduce the possibility of being victims of risky situations up to 80 percent.

“In the civic culture of the new generation, information and citizen participation for the prevention of accidents and incidents are fundamental actions that will help us enjoy the festivities of the Day of the Dead”, he added.

They shared safety tips through social networks, the Citizen Council (@thecouncilmx on Twitter and Citizen Council on Facebook).

If you plan to go to cemeteries, follow this advice: wear comfortable clothes, wear sunscreen, stay hydrated, keep an eye on people who visit them with you, especially if they’re children or elder people,, and if you’re going to have alcoholic drinks, do so responsibly.

Parents who will take their children “trick or treating” should plan their route, stay alert and keep them on sight. Use sidewalks, avoid walking on streets, walk along well-lit areas and check that the candies that they receive are not open.

Finally, Salvador Guerrero Chipres reminded that in case they find any trouble, citizens may call the Safety Line and Trustworthy Chat (55) 5533-5533 where they will receive free legal and psychological support 24 hours a day. “It’s worth reminding people that since last week, this service is also available in English.”
