ON MAY 10TH AND ALWAYS WE SUPPORT MOMS WHO ARE SUFFERING FROM PANDEMIC FATIGUE

Emotional fatigue is related with the multiplication of roles withing the home, child care, caring for other adults or home labor. The organism offers free psychological aid 24/7.

Before pandemic fatigue and the new work roles that confinement brought Mexican mothers have learned how to overcome and adjust their needs, mainly in relation with mental health, according to the President of the Citizen Council for Safety and Justice in Mexico City.

According to data from the organism, between March 2020 –when sanitary measures due to COVID-19 began– and April 2021, this year they have offered support against emotional fatigue to 197 women.

“This emotional fatigue is related with four factors: mothers or tutors have been overcome by the roles of educators and care-takers, apart from facing, in many cases, unemployment and having their roles as wives,” Salvador Guerrero Chipres, President of the organism commented.

Women who contacted the Council manifested feeling overwhelmed, tired, disoriented and with no time for themselves, all of this having a significant impact on their mood.

Around 58% or the mothers who asked for help from the Council’s psychologists, manifested fatigue from taking care of their kids, 17% for taking care of adults and 16% for home labor.

Data shows that one of every three women are from 31 to 45 years and three out of five of the calls come from Mexico City.

“At the Council we seek to strengthen family bonds and emotional stability, as well as to provide the tools people who have children need, identify the right time and spaces to carry out activities without affecting the family or personal environment,” Tanya Perez one of the 120 psychologists the organism has explained.

Also, during the first four months of this year, 309 moms requested support from the Citizen Council for their children, mainly due to suicidal thoughts, behavioral problems, addictions, aggressiveness, anxiety and pandemic fatigue.

Around 42% of mothers are between 36 and 50 years of age and apart from Mexico City they call from the State of Mexico, Veracruz, Guanajuato, Guerrero and Morelos, mainly. The psychologist of the organism suggested creating support networks for moms within the home, including establishing schedules, care and education roles that all the members of the family should have.
