Mayor Clara Brugada and the president of the organism, Salvador Guerrero Chiprés, sign an agreement to prevent and fight against the crime.
The head of the mayoralty highlights the integral and coordinated work required to achieve a continuous decrease in criminal incidents.
According to data from the Citizen Council for Safety and Justice in Mexico City, the Iztapalapa Mayoralty registered a decrease of 27% in its historic average of high impact crimes during the first five months of 2021, compared with the past seven years.
Within the framework of the collaboration agreement signage with the mayoralty, the organism informed that the average rate of crimes between January and May from 2015 to 2021 is 3 thousand 487, while in the same time lapse of this year there were 2 thousand 529.
“The integral work in Iztapalapa has also allowed it to be taken off the list of the 15 most dangerous municipalities in the country. In this strategy, the coordination among all levels of government, having more and better police elements, the creation of Caminos Mujeres Libres y Seguras, and other public policies is evident,” said Salvador Guerrero Chiprés, president of the Citizen Council.
Mayor Clara Marina Brugada Molina highlighted that during the past three years there has been a sustained decrease in criminal incidents thanks to a coordinated inter-institutional work among the three levels of government.
“We all work to recover tranquility and establish peace in Iztapalapa (…) In order to achieve peace, it was not enough to strengthen and have more police officers and patrols, we required a more integral work,” she stated. The agreement, signed on Thursday at the organism’s seat in Iztapalapa, establishes the exchange of social intelligence data to fight against crime, as well as methods of attention to citizens and victims.
Between January 2020 and June 2021, the Citizen Council has offered 20 thousand 279 legal or psychological attentions related with the mayoralty and it helped open 279 investigation files, mainly due to violence within the family, fraud and extortion. Data from the organism reveal that two out of every three people who asked for help were women, and 50% of the total were 31 to 59 years old.
At the mayoralty, the Citizen Council participates in programs promoted by the mayor, including Caminos Mujeres Libres y Seguras, UTOPÍAS or Siempre Vivas, which promote and strengthen a culture of denunciation and a life free of violence. Also, Brugada reminded that the organism joined the safety council at the mayoralty, and in its daily meetings they share and analyze data in order to find criminal behavioral patterns and establish operative actions.
In January 2020, the organism opened a seat in the area, at Luis Hidalgo Monroy 100, San Pablo neighborhood, and up to now it has assisted 13 thousand 500 citizens and offered workshops about violence within the family or grief.
