In press conference, the Government Minister Rosa Icela Rodriguez and the president of the Citizen Council, Salvador Guerrero Chipres, informed that the Government led by Claudia Sheinbaum works on a daily basis to keep the population from being victim of telephone extortions.

Particularly, the Government Minister called on people to prevent the fraud of “The Employer” known as “Yellow envelope”, a type of crime that has evolved and that not only affects private homes but also companies and small businesses.

She reminded that in this type of fraud criminals call houses or businesses making believe that the owners or employers are in legal trouble that must be solved immediately by means of money or jewels.

“The government and citizens warn the population before this type of fraud so that they don’t fall for it or are victims of scams. We as them not to answer to this type of calls and to communicate with the Citizen Council by calling (55) 5533 5533 and placing their report,” said Rosa Icela Rodriguez.

Meanwhile, the president of the Citizen Council, Salvador Guerrero Chipres, informed that the Safety Line and Trustworthy Chat now include the NO+XT (No more extortions) app, available for iOS and Android.

“This tool will strengthen the war against crime by empowering citizens and promoting a culture of denunciation.”

When receiving a call, the app compares the number with a database that include s over 150 thousand numbers. If found, it warns the user: Don’t answer! #Suspect Call *5533.

So far this year, the Citizen Council has registered 748 “Employer” fraud reports and 73 “Yellow Envelope” fraud reports.

In case of not finding the phone number in the list, the users may place a report in the app or directly in the Safety Line or the Trustworthy Chat of the Citizen Council (55) 5533 5533, where they can also receive psychological and legal aid.
