WE POSITION OUR "CHAT DE CONFIANZA" TO ATTEND MENTAL HEALTH

In the first year of service, more than eight thousand people have been treated in the Chat; 36 % percent has been to provide psychological support.

One year after its launch, the WhatsApp service of the Citizen Council for Security and Justice of Mexico City has positioned itself as a fundamental tool in the care of mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety and even suicidal ideas .

Since the beginning of operations, on February 27, 2019, the "Chat de Confianza" 55 5533-5533, name that the agency gave to this courier service, has supported more than eight thousand people from both Mexico City and from the interior of the Republic and even from abroad.

The trained and specialized psychologists of the Citizen Council have attended people from Argentina, Colombia, the United States, Guatemala, El Salvador and Brazil, among other countries. The users attended report having sought support in this service because in their countries of origin there are no tools that provide care 24 hours a day and 7 days a week.

Salvador Guerrero Cyprus, president of the organization, acknowledged that the Chat has strengthened the confidence of citizens to ask for help, since, in addition to being free, it is available at any time of day.

“We know how important that, for people suffering from depression, it is important to have someone at the time of their crisis; This service does not leave them alone. Even at dawn, there is always someone behind the screen to answer, it is not a bot, but a real person, ”he added.

Thus, the Citizen Council has contributed to saving lives, since 36 percent of the care provided through WhatsApp has served to provide psychological support or containment to people at suicidal risk.

In addition to offering psychological service, the Trusted Chat has allowed citizens to report problems such as extortion, bullying, animal abuse and criminal activity, among others.

It has also served to support the resolution of high-impact crimes, since citizens can provide relevant data that is shared with the Investigation Police.
