In order for Blue Monday not to affect you on this next Monday January 18th, the Citizen Council for Safety and Justice in Mexico City offers free psychological support through the Safety Line and Trustworthy Chat, both of which you can reach on 55 5533 5533.
This day, meant to raise awareness about depression, was established on 2005, when a psychology professor from the University of Cardiff found, through a mathematical formula, that the third Monday of January was the “saddest day of the year”.
The Citizen Council recommends everyone to remember that they are not alone before any situation, they can count on the 107 psychologists with whom they can talk or chat at any moment, even anonymously and 24/7.
According to data offered by the organism, between 2020 and the first 16 days of 2021 they received 3 thousand 800 calls in relations with topics such as depressions, sadness, loneliness and hopelessness before the future.
“Depression due to confinement can occur at any age, as well as the fear of catching Covid or due to any economical situation; when we acknowledge these emotions as normal, we can ameliorate from the threats we see in them. We want everyone to know that they’re not alone, that mental health is a right and that here we can offer them specialized help,” Salvador Guerrero Chipres, president of the Citizen Council commented.
The data offered by the organism points out that 33% of the people who seeked emotional attention are between 18 and 35 years of age, and 25% are under 16.
“Minors found in the Citizen Council and its Safety Line and Trustworthy Chat a place where they can talk and be heard, and this is also due to the fact that we have alliances with Facebook Tiktok and Netflix,” Guerrero Chipres explained.
Around 34% of reports for psychological attention take place in the stated of the Mexican Republic and 285 take place in Mexico City. They have even registered 82 case from abroad, from countries such as Colombia, Peru and Argentina.
The Citizen Council lists signs that help acknowledge emotions such as sadness and anxiety including loss of interest for activities the person used to enjoy, sudden modd swings and distancing oneself from people the person cares about. It recommends maintaining a self-care routine that includes doing exercise at home, minding one’s diet, sleeping enough hours or surrounding oneself with positive people.
