This type of calls represent 29% of the total number of calls received at the program CompAnimal, from January to July; the agreement with PAOT will allow us to integrate these cases.
Throughout the year, the Citizen Council for Safety and Justice in Mexico City has assisted in nearly one thousand 200 cases regarding animal mistreatment, physical aggressions, tied up animals, representing 29% of the total number of reports.
Within the framework of Homeless Animals World Day, commemorated on August 17th, the organism informed that between January and July the CompAnimal program registered 4,088 reports and 95% involved dogs and cats.
Apart from cases of mistreatment, 15% other refert to malnutrition, 8% to abandonment and the same percentage to thermal incommodities.
“Today our citizens care more about animal rights, mainly in relation with pets, who must live free from violence. Citizens are more concerned about the environmental conditions that surround them in agreement with what we call safety ecology,” Salvador Guerrero Chiprés, president of the Council said.
He highlighted that the organism signed a collaboration agreement with the Environmental and Land Management Procurement Office in Mexico City, so that the reports the Council shares with this organism have the necessary legal elements to bring the accused to trial.
Data from PAOT reveal that 22% of the cases the citizen organism received since 2019 turned into denunciations.
The agreement, signed by the head of the dependence, Mariana Boy Tamborrell, and Guerrero Chiprés, establishes joint activities to promote a civic culture, legality and crime prevention.
Data from the Council show a decrease of 16% in the number of reports during the first seven months of this year, compared with the same period in 2020, going from 4,876 to 4,088.
Around 71% of the calls come from inhabitants of Mexico City; 22.6% from the Sate of Mexico and 6.4% from the rest of the country. Out of the cases registered in the nation’s capital, 17% were made by neighbors of the Iztapalapa mayoralty, followed by Gustavo A. Madero and Cuauhtémoc.
The Citizen Council has the Safety Line and Trustworthy Chat 55 5533 5533, that offers attention 24/7 to reports crimes against animals. Also, the Messenger chatbot “Adelita Sindelito” found at the organism’s Facebook page @ConsejoCiudadanoMx, is a place where people can share videos, photos, audios and testimonies.
