The attentions we offer young people 18 to 25 of age increase

Psychological aid is the main need young people have, according to the “Generation Z before the pandemic” report, within the framework of World Youth Day.

attentions offered to young people between 18 and 25 years increased 159% this year, most of them asking for psychological aid, according to the “Generation Z before the Pandemic” report elaborated by the Citizen Council for Safety and Justice in Mexico City.

Within the framework of World Youth Day, commemorated on August 12th, the organism established that from January to July 2020 they added 5 thousand 444 calls, against 14 thousand 102 registered within the same period of 2021.

Reports related with young people, also known as Centennials, represented 13.2% of the total number of free services offered through the Safety Line and Trustworthy Chat 55 5533 5533.

The needs that increased the most among this age group were psychological aid, with 245%; violence within the family with 213% and 138% SayYes to Life related with situations thoughts, plans or attempts of suicide.

“Generation Z is an example of participation before the problems that affect them and older people and before the situations surrounding them, including crimes and animal mistreatment,” Salvador Guerrero Chiprés, president of the citizen Council mentioned.

Data reveals that relationship problems cause great concern to this age group, leading them to situations of sadness due to breakups, infidelity or even emotional dependence on their partner.

Among young people, the ones who call the most are women, with 69% of the cases; 49% of the total number of reports come through the Trustworthy Chat via WhatsApp, in contrast with the 20% of the general population that uses this means of communication.

So far this year, 4 thousand 320 young women have asked for psychological aid, mainly due to relationship or family problems, anxiety, depression and grief.

Another 703 reported violence within the family, and in three out of every four cases it was committed by people who were sentimentally close to them.

Regarding legal attention, Centennials seek counseling in order to prevent or report attempts of extortion or to ask for support for a family member.

Around 6% of the calls are made to report animal mistreatment. This week, the Citizen Council, in alliance with Facebook Messenger, launched the chatbot “Adelita Sindelito” a tool that allos victims or witnesses of crimes to send videos, photos or reports in real time, and if needed, they are sent to authorities.

The report about young people also reveals that the entities with the highest number of reports are Mexico City, the State of Mexico, Veracruz, Jalisco and puebla. They also received calls from abroad, from countries such as Colombia, the United States, Peru, Venezuela or El Salvador.
