The Citizen Council presents the SAY YES report of September 2019, indicating that the incidence of homicide is below the national average.
The Citizen Council for Safety and Justice in Mexico City informed that 13 out of 20 high impact crimes consolidated their downward trend during September, according to data presented in the monthly SAY YES report (Report, Intelligence, Safety and Innovation).
“This data is the result of the coordinated work among different levels of government and citizen ship, the presence of the National Guard at critical spots around the city and, above all, the implementation of a safety strategy that has as its main axis the strengthening of police work and the attention to social problems as well as the promotion of denunciation,” said Salvador Guerrero Chipres, president of the Citizen Council.
Car theft with and without violence also presented an important reduction by reaching less than 27 percent, the former, and 23 percent the latter.
In total, in Mexico City, the number of investigation files for high impact crimes diminished by 29 percent.
Although there are positive trends, there are crimes that still represent an area of opportunity for authorities. These include house robberies, which stayed the same in comparison with December 2018, as well as extortion.
Finally, Salvador Guerrero Chipres reminded that this type of reports contribute, precisely, with the identification of special patterns in crime and with the design of public safety policies that help prevent it and fight against it.
