Invitation to participate in the Sculpture Contest “Yes to disarmament, yes to peace 2019”

In order to contribute to the prevention of violence at homes, schools and streets, they implemented the “SAY YES TO DISARMAMENT, SAY YES TO PEACE” PROGRAM, which consists on trading weapons for economic benefits. The Program has collected over 4 thousand 285 weapons that have been destroyed.

The material will become available to artists who want to participate in the creation of a sculpture with the theme: Culture of Peace and Non Violence in Mexico City.

The Contest will grant an acknowledgement by the Government of Mexico City, the National Defense Ministry and the Citizen Council for Safety and Justice in Mexico City.

Participate in the Sculpture Contest

For this reason, according to the Agreement of the Creation of the Citizen Council, article TWO, we call on artists to participate in the sculpture contest:

“YES TO DISARMAMENT, YES TO PEACE”

Objective:

To create a sculpture inspired on our city’s civic values, in the culture of Peace and Non violence, using ferrous material obtained through the destruction of firearms collected through the Program #YesToDisarmamentYesToPeace (1.7 tons so far).

Contest regulations

This invitation is open to Mexican and Foreign residents in Mexico City who are plastic and visual artists, with the exception of family member of organizers and members of the Jury.

Proposals

1. After posting this invitation and until November 20^th the Citizen Council for Safety and Justice in Mexico City will receive proposals at its premises (Amberes 54, Colonia Juarez, Cuauhtemoc Municipality).
2. Each contestant may present an original and unprecedented work that has not participated in other similar contests. They may participate individually or in teams (maximum 3 people). In case of doing so as a group, they must name a representative who will be responsible for the work before the Organizing Committee of this contest and the participating institutions.
3. Free technique with the topic: Culture of Peace and Non violence.
4. Works that promote racism, discrimination or violence will not be accepted.
5. The work must include a base or support where it will be exhibited. Its measurements must not exceed 2 meters. The creation must be visible and appreciated from all angles (360o). Works that don’t respect these measurements will not be accepted.

7. Proposals must abide by the following regulations:
8. Participants’ full name (in case of participating as a group, designating the representative of each team)
9. Each participant must hand in two enumerated envelopes.

• Envelope 1: Work title, artist pseudonym, description of the materials employed in the work, conceptual or rational development of the project that describes the reason and meaning of the work, technique, measurements and elaboration time.
• Envelope 2: Copy of the official identification of the participant or group representative, phone number, email address and resume (two pages long at the most)

1. Waiver that specifies that the author owns the rights over the material and that the Mexico City government and the Citizen council are freed from any responsibility the work generates.
2. Free subscription.
3. The Citizen Council will establish a date and place for the installment of the sculpture.

Jury

It is integrated by two experts in this topic, teachers or plastic artists that will be invited by the Mexico City Government and the Citizen council. One guest will be selected by the Ministry of Culture. One will be selected by the Ministry of Government, and the jury will be presided by the President of the citizen Council. The winner will be selected through free and secret votes. In case of a tie, the president of the jury will have the final vote.

Award:

An award of $200,000 (two hundred thousand pesos 00/100) MN) will be grated by the Citizen council to the winner. The Jury may also select two honorary mentions.

The winner will be announced on the Human Rights World Day, on December 10^th 2019.

The award ceremony and the installment of the work will take place on February 5^th 2020, at 11:00 am , at the place where the sculpture will be exhibited.

Notes: The costs for the making oft his work will be covered by the Citizen Council and the participating government institutions.

The work will be declared cultural heritage of Mexico City.

The interpretation and application of pieces correspond solely to the Organizing Committee and its ruling will be unappealable.

BASES DEL CONCURSO

Participantes:

La convocatoria está abierta a las y los artistas plásticos y visuales mexicanos(as) y extranjeros(as) residentes en la Ciudad de México, con excepción de familiares directos de los organizadores y de los integrantes del Jurado.

Presentación de propuestas

1. A partir de la publicación de la presente y hasta el 20 de noviembre se recibirán las propuestas en la sede del Consejo Ciudadano para la Seguridad y Justicia de la Ciudad de México (Amberes 54, Colonia Juárez, Alcaldía Cuauhtémoc).

2. Cada participante podrá presentar una obra original e inédita y que no haya concursado en algún certamen similar. Se podrá participar de manera individual o en equipo (máximo 3 personas). En caso de hacerlo de forma grupal, se deberá nombrar a un representante, quien será responsable de la obra ante el Comité Organizador de este concurso y las instituciones convocantes.

3. La técnica es libre, con el tema: Cultura de la Paz y No Violencia.

4. No se aceptarán obras que inciten al racismo, a la discriminación o a la violencia.

5. La obra deberá incluir la base o soporte donde será exhibida, cuya medida no debe exceder los 2 metros. En la propuesta, la creación deberá apreciarse desde todos sus ángulos (360°). Las obras que no respeten esta medida no serán aceptadas.

Las propuestas deben cumplir con los siguientes requisitos:

a. Nombre completo de las y los participantes (en caso de participar de manera colectiva, designar a la persona representante del equipo)

b. Cada participante deberá entregar dos sobre numerados.

• Sobre 1: el nombre de la obra, un seudónimo del artista, la descripción de los materiales empleados, desarrollo conceptual o racional del proyecto que describa el porqué de la pieza y su significado, técnica, medidas y tiempo de realización.
• Sobre 2: copia de identificación oficial del participante o representante del equipo, número telefónico, correo electrónico y currículum no mayor a dos cuartillas

c. Carta responsiva en la que se especifique que se cuenta con los derechos del material y se deslinde al Gobierno de la Ciudad de México y al Consejo Ciudadano, de cualquier responsabilidad que el uso de éstos genere.

d. La inscripción es gratuita

f. El Consejo Ciudadano designará la fecha y el lugar donde será instalada la escultura.

Jurado

Está integrado por dos expertos en la materia, maestros o artistas plásticos que serán invitados por el Gobierno de la Ciudad de México y el Consejo Ciudadano, un invitado seleccionado por la Secretaría de Cultura, un invitado seleccionado por la Secretaría de Gobierno, y preside el jurado el Consejero Presidente del Consejo Ciudadano. El ganador será elegido mediante voto libre y secreto. En caso de empate el presidente del Jurado tendrá el voto de calidad.

Premio del Jurado:

Se entregará un premio de $200,000.00 (Doscientos mil pesos 00/100 M.N.), que entregará el Consejo Ciudadano al artista ganador. El Jurado podrá determinar, además, hasta dos menciones honoríficas.

El anuncio de la ganadora o ganador se llevará a cabo en el Día Internacional de los Derechos Humanos, 10 de diciembre de 2019.

La ceremonia de premiación e instalación de la obra se llevará a cabo el 5 de febrero de 2020, a las 11 horas, en el lugar donde se exhibirá la escultura ganadora.

Notas:

Los costos para realización de la obra quedarán a cargo del Consejo Ciudadano y las dependencias de gobierno participantes.

La obra será patrimonio cultural de la Ciudad de México.

La interpretación y aplicación de las piezas corresponden únicamente al Comité Organizador y su fallo será inapelable.

Los asuntos no previstos en la presente convocatoria serán resueltos por el Comité Organizador.
