WE MAKE ALLIANCES WITH FUNERAL COMPANIES TO OFFER WORKERS EMOTIONAL SUPPORT

We sum our efforts to help employees before the exhaustion caused by the intense work days during the pandemic caused by COVID-19.

Before the increase of symptoms of fatigue, stress and infections caused by COVID 19 among employers of funeral services throughout the country, the Citizen Council for Safety and Justice in Mexico City announced that they launched a campaign together with this sector’s companies in order to offer free emotional help to the thousands of employees that perform these activities.

The National Associations of Funeral Directors, the J. Garcia Lopez group and small groups of funeral home establishments throughout the country and that include undertakers, embalmers, front-line personnel, established an alliance with the Citizen Council in order to offer psychological attention 24/7 through the Safety Line and Trustworthy Chat 55 5533 5533.

The president of the Citizen Council, Salvador Guerrero Chipres, commented that “the increase in demand for funeral services due to the increase in the number of deaths caused by COVID 19, has caused employees not to have enough rest or vacation days and it has forced them to have long workdays, situations that have translated into emotional affections that require attention.”

For this reason, the main companies that work on this sector and their workers will promote the attention the Citizen Council offers to help them mitigate possible situations of stress and anxiety, products of fatigue and fear of catching the disease. Attention includes clients of funeral services in terms of grief.

The vice-president of the National Association of Funeral Directors, Roberto Garcia, acknowledged that they are concerned about the strain their staff suffers. He highlighted that “people are very tired because many have 24/24 working days or even 24/36 hour working days, so we acknowledge the value of the aid offered by the Citizen Council in order to help them reduce in some way their levels of stress and physical and emotional fatigue.”

The J. Garcia Lopez Funeral Group, which is also an ally of this strategy, has promoted since May 2020 the special service the Citizen Council offers family members of diseased relatives due to COVID 19 in terms of grief.

“For us it’s important for Mexican families to have access to a dignified, human and good quality funeral service, apart from offering psychological aid because, whenever there’s a loss, the most important thing is that people don't feel lonely. With this agreement of social co-responsibility we sum actions in favor of everyone,” the director of J. Garcia Lopez, Manuel Ramirez commented.

It’s important to mention that since May 2020 the Citizen Council has helped 505 people in matters of grief, out of which 76% are women and 23.7% are men. Nearly 28.5% lost a father or mother, while 17.4% lost grandparents and 10.3% lost other relatives.
