The Citizen Council has helped over 10 thousand underage kids since 2020; the organism offers free psychological aid 24/7 all around the country.
The pandemic helped raise awareness about the requirements for emotional contention of underage children, according to the report “Children’s and teenager’s needs” elaborated by the Citizen Council for Safety and Justice in Mexico City.
According to data from the Safety Line and Trustworthy Chat (55 5533 5533) operated by the organism, in 2020 and during the first four months of 2021 they offered 10 thousand 768 attentions to this part of the population.
“As mothers, fathers or tutors, it’s important to help whenever children express their need to receive psychological aid. Sometimes we deny them this opportunity due to the cost or to some myths associated with therapy. The Council wants them to know that we’re here to help them for free 24/7: mental health is not a luxury, it’s a right,” said Salvador Guerrero Chipres, President of the organism.
The report reveals that 61.1% of minors seek psychological aid and another 22% is related with the SayYes to Life program that helps people at suicide risk.
Among those who seek psychological attention 14.3% do it for family problems, 11.4% for depression, 11.1% for anxiety, 7.2% for pandemic fatigue and 6% self-esteem problems.
Last year they offered 6 thousand 455 aids and up to April this year they’ve offered 4 thousand 313 aids.
“The peak that was registered since October is the product of the Council’s presence in the TikTok social network, and it’s also important to point out that three out of every four interactions are made through the Trustworthy Chat, a tool that enable communication with this age group,” he added.
The underage kids who asked for help 51% are between 12 and 15 years and 47% between 16 and 17 years.
