We signed a collaboration agreement with the Mexico City Election Institute (IECM) in order to promote a Civic Culture before the elections.
The goal is to guarantee the exercise of the citizens’ fundamental rights in a full, free and informed way during the Ordinary Local Election Process 2020-2021.
We signed the agreement at the main seat of the IECM and it was led by the President Counselor of this Institute, Mario Velazquez Miranda as well as the President of the Citizen Council, Salvador Guerrero Chipres, who were joined by the Election Counselor, Sonia Perez Perez and the Legal and Administration Director of the Citizen Council, Graciano Cruz Soriano.
During his participation in the act of protocol, the President Council of the IECM highlighted the importance of joining forces within the framework of the current Ordinary Local Election Process, given that the capital city population’s political participation is fundamental now that the political campaigns begin on April 4th and election period begins on June 6th.
Guerrero Chipres added that the agreement represents the construction of a platform for the promotion of a civic culture, crime prevention and denouncement in the election context, so he offered the Institute the use of the Safety Line and Trustworthy Chat 55 5533 5533, where they offer free legal and psychological counseling 24/7.
They will work particularly on identifying crimes related with fraud and extortion for which the Council also offers the app No+Extortion, which has helped block over 170 thousand phone numbers related with these crimes.
“The Citizen Council for Safety and Justice in Mexico City has very specific goals so that citizens have the instruments and tools that guarantee their rights and their legal safety, and we as the Election Institute have the main goal of guaranteeing the full exercise of the election-political rights of the citizens. So, both institution’s work coincides and so this strategic Alliance will help us reach our institutional goals,” Velázquez Miranda expressed.
Guerrero Chipres said that this agreement acknowledges both institute’s commitment with a civic culture within the framework of the Ordinary Local Election Process 2020-2021.
“Defending rights is a fundamental action in every society and one of these rights is the one citizens have during the election processes, in which the Citizen Council can offer the population legal guidance and aid,” Guerrero Chipres insisted.
The agreement foresees collaboration before and during the election process, the organization of civic culture forums, citizen safety, crime prevention, and justice procurement and administration between both organisms.
