600 police officers will become ambassadors of the National Line against Human Trafficking 800 55 33 000 in order to help prevent this type of crime.
The Citizen Council for Safety and Justice in Mexico City, that operates the National Line against Human Trafficking 800 55 33 000, trained 600 police force elements of the Citizen Safety Ministry (SSC) on Human Trafficking.
This with the purpose of training the uniformed men not only on how to prosecute the crime but also on how to identify possible victims and those who exploit them.
During this exercise, the A-21 international organization, an ally of the Citizen Council on the fight against Human Trafficking also participated.
Salvador Guerrero Chipres, President of the Citizen Council, explained that this training takes place as a response to a request made by the Crime Prevention and Citizen Participation sub-secretary led by Pablo Vazquez, considering that they are interested in reinforcing the actions promoted by programs such as Barrio a Dentro, among others.
“These tools will allow uniformed officers to better identify people who might be at risk of being victims of trafficking networks; particularly young women who represent 81% of the victims of this crime,” Guerrero Chipres added.
The training course will have a duration of three days in which the police officers will learn what human trafficking is, what are the characteristics of this crime in the city according to data offered by the National Line against Trafficking, which are the indicators that help point out a victim, how to help victims and how to make a better use of relevant data during the investigations.
This training will add 600 police officers as ambassadors of the National Line Against Human Trafficking, which from January to November has received 1991 reports that offer information about possible victims of Trafficking.
Also, thanks to the collaborative work made with diverse authorities in the country, they have opened 45 investigation files, 29% of them in Mexico City.
Finally, Guerrero Chipres reminded that the National Line Against Human Trafficking 800 5533 000 works for free 24/7 with counselors who specialize in this crime and who may receive anonymous denunciations.
