The Citizen Council for Safety and Justice in Mexico City acknowledge the advances in terms of public safety reflected in the decrease in criminal incidents, as a result of the coordinated work between authorities and the promotion of a culture of denunciation.
In her Third Report, the Chief of Government in the nation’s capital, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, said that crimes in general showed a reduction of 45% in the period of January-August of this year, compared with the same period in 2019.
“It’s important to highlight that together with the decrease in incidents there has been an improvement in the citizen’s perception of insecurity, as established by rigorous measurement tools such as the INEGI poll,” said Salvador Guerrero Chiprés, President of the Citizen Council.
The citizen organism highlighted the statistic behavior of crimes considered to lack a black rate, such as manslaughter and car theft with and without violence, which in the aforementioned period decreased by 34,30 and 48 percent, respectively.
Guerrero Chiprés commented that the decrease in the number of crimes and the improving perception are a result of the work made by the so-called virtuous triangle: citizens, businessmen and authorities.
“The government’s strategy has had an integral focus and it has particularly worked on the causes of delinquency by creating social programs such as Pilares, Sí al Desarme and Barrio Adentro”, he added.
