In a joint commitment for the safety and well-being of the country’s capital city’s inhabitants and of those of the whole country, the Citizen Council for Safety and Justice in Mexico City and Uber signed a collaboration agreement to promote a culture of reporting and prevention.
“The agreement has the purpose of strengthening the strategy of security, both local and federal, from a citizen’s point of view. The specific commitment is to exchange information swiftly in order to support the investigation of crimes, particularly Human Trafficking,” Salvador Guerrero Chipres, president of the Citizen Council pointed out.
Federico Ranero, CEO of UBER Mexico assured that “Uber has made safety our priority in benefit of users and associate drivers in the cities we operate. For this reason, we are proud to establish this collaboration with the Citizen Council with the purpose of continuing to contribute positively with the development and safety in Mexico City.”
With this action UBER commits to responding promptly to denunciations made in the Safety Call Line apart from offering information about the way, time and place where relevant cases take place in order to share it with authorities.
In the framework if the International Day against Sexual Exploitation and Trafficking, the leading taxi by app company and the Citizen Council that operates the National Call Line Against Trafficking, established their collaboration to fight against this crime:
Throughout the year, the Call Line has received 23 calls from UBER drivers reporting suspicious situation related with possible cases of sexual exploitation in diverse states such as Queretaro, Chihuahua, Mexico City and Baja California.
One of this calls helped save three women from the state of Morelos, particularly in the municipality of Cuautla.
“The information drivers have offered has been of great use o identify the dynamics of this crime in terms of routes, places, victim profile and transportation,” he pointed out.
The agreement offers users and associate UBER drivers services of psychological counseling and legal help that the council offers through the Safety Call Line and the Trustworthy Chat, both available by calling /55) 5533-5533 for free, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
In addition, both parties will organize informative sessions in terms of security, crime prevention, procurement and justice administration for drivers of the UBER app.
They will also offer training in terms of Human Trafficking so that drivers can identify possible victims.
“Wherever people are aware and alert, there is an additional aid through what we are doing at the Citizen Council and in Mexico City in terms of security,” Guerrero Chipres added.
