We present the messenger chatbot that allows people to denounce through photos, videos, audios or any other means that contributes to a crime investigation.
The Citizen Council for Safety and Justice in Mexico City and Facebook Messenger introduced the virtual assistant “Adelita Sindelito”, a chatbot that will received reports from citizens regarding theft, extortion, violence within the family, animal mistreatment, cyber crimes, Human Trafficking, and more.
Salvador Guerrero Chiprés, president of the organism, and Paco Estens, Facebook manager for politics and government in the North American Hemisphere, agreed that the tool will strengthen the process of denunciation and will help gather the necessary evidence to register and prosecute crimes.
The “Adelita Sindelito” virtual assistant was developed thanks to an alliance between the organism and Facebook in collaboration with the Artificial nerds company, and it will allow to expand the work made by the Citizen Council to 82 million people who use Messenger every month in Mexico.
“The chatbot allows to redefine the odds we have to strengthen a culture of prevention and fight against impunity and to reach all the generations that use social networks. It makes us think that from a civil point of view and with the support of global companies and federal and local authorities we can oversee different situations that put safety in our country’s streets at risk,” Guerrero Chiprés stated.
Victims and witnesses can access the @ConsejoCiudadanoMx Facebook page at any moment, write to “Adelita Sindelito” via Messenger and share photos, videos, audios, locations or other evidence of crimes.
They can also access the chatbot, which operates through the following link: m.me/ConsejoCiudadanoMX. The content users share will be used under the Citizen Council’s privacy policies.
With this report they will generate a file that may be shared with the corresponding authorities in order to investigate crimes; they will also offer legal and psychological support to initiate a denunciation.
“At Facebook we focus on developing products and tools that may help people connect, inspire and broaden the impact of their actions. Today, we go one step further in order to protect the community both within and outside of Facebook, by offering them a unique tool to reach experts in safety,” Francisco Estens highlighted.
“The chatbot increases the possibilities of social denunciation, reduces technical frictions and allows people to send proof of the situation from their cell phone while receiving immediate counseling,” he added.
The virtual assistant was named in order to highlight gender, because from the more than 112 thousand reports the Citizen Council has received this year, 65% come from women, regarding situations of violence within the family, child abuse, sextortion, fraud, mistreatment to older adults or Human Trafficking.
“At Facebook, our motto is “wherever there are no cameras there are responsible and collaborative citizens” who can share evidence about criminal situations from their cell phones in real time, in a discrete and fast way,” Guerrero Chiprés declared.
Also, “Adelita Sindelito” offers an option to continue the conversation with specialized counselors from the Citizen Council in order to receive psychological aid or legal counseling in a free and immediate way.
Apart from the chatbot, Facebook and the citizen organism are committed to working jointly to disseminate and promote campaigns in favor of civic education, safety and caring about mental health.
“Adelita Sindelito”, available at m.me/ConsejoCiudadanoMx, add to the free psychological aid and legal services that the Council offers through the Safety Line and WhatsApp at the the Trustworthy Chat 55 5533 5533 which works 24/7 from all around the country and abroad.
