“The Buen Fin represents a double opportunity to help the economy of families and to promote the economical activity with the necessary sanitary and cyber precautions, particularly during these times when the pandemic has affected all the world economies,” Salvador Guerrero Chipres, President of the Citizen Council, established.
In order for all shopping transactions to be done safely, people must follow preventive measures before the risk of credit card cloning, identity theft and phishing, a type of fraud in which cyber criminals pretend to be a trustworthy institution in order to steal personal data or get economical benefits from users.
Precautions include being careful with suspicious emails and phone calls that are supposedly made by banks or stores to ask for personal information. In these cases we recommend people to hang up, verify and denounce.
Likewise, when shopping online people must check before making any transaction that the page browser includes an “s” after http (this means that it’s a safe site).
The Citizen Council will offer special attention during this season before fraudulent situations as well as free counseling 24/7. In that sense, consumers may use the Safety Line and Trustworthy Chat 55 5533 5533.
Between January and October of the present year the Council received 56 phishing reports, which were only consummated in only 20% of the cases.
Responsible consumption is another recommendation the Citizen Council gives so that people acquire products and services that they really need. This way, offers will translate into real savings for families without causing disproportional debts.
In terms of sanitary measures, citizens must consider going to stores without the company of family members or other people, since these visits are not promenades.
When going to a shopping center, people must carry with them a sanitary kit that includes a face mask, antibacterial gel, face cover and they must keep a safe distance from other people in order to avoid crowds.
