The Safety Line and Trustworthy Chat offer their services 24/7. The commemoration of the Day of the Dead is a chance to overcome the loss of a loved one.
Confronting the loss of a loved one is not easy; much less if it was due to a disease associated with COVID-19 or because of an accident. For this reason, the Citizen Council offers free emotional support services in relation with grief through the Safety line and Trustworthy Chat at 55 5533 5533, or at their Emotional Recovery Centers located at the seats of Amberes 54 and Iztapalapa.
Before the celebration of the Day of the Dead, Salvador Guerrero Chipres, President of the Citizen Council, reminded that the service is free and available 24 hours a day because “we know that deep feelings of grief, longing, depression, fear or anxiety before the loss of a loved one or a friend come at night, when you’re alone.”
He mentioned that the group of psychologists that work at the line are duly trained to help people understand death, accept it and heal feelings of guilt, anguish and impotence that it provokes.
Throughout the year, the Citizen Council has helped 222 people who have called the emotional contention service because of grief. Out of them, 20 percent has asked for support after losing a family member to a situation associated with the pandemic of COVID-19.
One out of every four cases received help to confront the loss of a parent; sixteen percent of them the loss of a spouse and 12 percent the loss of a grandparent.
Most of these attention services have been offered to people who live outside Mexico City (63 percent). This information includes users in Ecuador and Spain.
Guerrero Chipres mentioned that remembering people with joy is part of overcoming a loss, so he called upon people to commemorate death at home and abide by the recommendations of prevention and safe distance.
