WE OPEN A SEAT IN IZTAPALAPA
  • It’s the first time, since almost 13 years, that this organism inaugurates a regional seat where people from this municipality will receive attention.

For the firs time since its creation almost 13 years ago, the Citizen Council for Safety and Justice in Mexico City decentralizes its services by inaugurating the seat at Iztapalapa, where people from this municipality will receive attention.

Apart from offering free psychological and legal support, its best-known services, this new seat will implement a model of social attention whose purpose is to prevent crime, reduce impunity, strengthen the Rule of Law and contribute to granting citizens better life conditions.

“The Citizen Council in Iztapalapa was created with the purpose of promoting denunciation and citizen aid. Also, with the idea that from Matinee Saturdays or Open Office Sundays for psychological therapy, we can offer the construction and reconstruction of the social network, trust and a civic culture for a new generation,” Salvador Guerrero Chipres, president of the organism, declared during the inauguration.

Meanwhile, Clara Brugada Molina, mayor of Iztapalapa, acknowledge the important decision the Citizen Council made to decentralize and reach out to those who need their services.

“There are nearly two million people in this mayoralty, which is the biggest not only in the city but in the country, we have a huge task ahead to offer attention to citizens and also in terms of safety and justice,” she pointed out.

She mentioned that it’s necessary to bring the project of attention to citizens to all the population in Iztapalapa, so that they know that there’s an organism made up by the civil society that is there to help women and men with any safety problem they might encounter.

This new model of attention is mainly based on the coordinated work between business people, authorities and citizens that are organized in favor of safety.

The seat, Guerrero Chipres explained, will emphasize particularly on civic culture: “there will be workshops, training sessions and sensitizing activities to talk about all types of violence, empower women and invite kids to interiorize values for a positive coexistence.”

Ernestina Godoy Ramos, general attorney, was also present at the inauguration. She made a vow to ensure “this event is repeated 15 more times, so that there is a Citizen Council in each mayoralty”, and she acknowledge that “the act of opening this house will irradiate peace, wisdom and citizen participation.”

Meanwhile, the secretary of Citizen Safety, Omar Garcia Harfuch, invited the people from Iztapalapa not only to be responsible citizens but allies so that “together we come together to fight the phenomenon of crime. Your participation is absolutely necessary to promote a civic culture, a culture based on the law and to make decisions with a high sense of responsibility, effectiveness, agreement and protection of rights.”

Finally, the executive president of the Communication council, Salvador Villalobos, established that the seat of Iztapalapa will be there to and for the citizens. “We want this year to bring us to work together, hand in hand, government, society, business and media in order to achieve safety and justice for everyone.”
