Almost half of the phone calls we receive asking for psychological support come from young people between the ages of 18 and 30. Infidelity is the main reason why they call.
Confinement due to COVID-19 has represented a challenge for couples as shown by the data gathered through the 4 thousand 178 psychological attentions the Citizen Council for Safety and Justice in Mexico City offered through 2020 and up to February this year.
Infidelity, break up, violence and jealousy are the main topics related with relationships and that were reported by the Safety Line and Trustworthy Chat 55 5533 5533.
“The sanitary crisis, fear of catching the disease, confinement and even Emotional Winter have strengthened emotions and limited areas of interaction between couples who don’t live together,” Salvador Guerrero Chipres, President of the Citizen Council mentioned.
Among the attentions that were offered, 3 out of 5 were for women. Also, 17% of reports are related with situations of infidelity, 13% with separation, 12% with violence and 10% with jealousy.
“Mostly, it has been young people who have faced the couple’s challenge during the pandemic; almost half of the people who seek help at the Safety Line or the Trustworthy Chat are between 18 and 30 years of age,” Guerrero Chipres commented.
With Valentine’s Day coming and the fact that for the first time many people many people will have to celebrate it from afar, the Citizen Council launched the #ThisIsLove campaign in social networks.
Among the options to celebrate and still maintain sanitary measures, the organism advised to do so with a virtual date to have dinner, play online, cook at home and eat together or send our significant other his/her favorite meal.
Some streaming services have the possibility of allowing its users to watch the same film or TV show together at the same time and comment it live through chat.
In case of having an online date its advisable to choose wisely, arrange and decorate the area where the date will take place, make sure it’s a comfortable place and during the encounter the couple can share photos or videos of nice memories with friends or with the boyfriend or girlfriend.
Data from the Safety Line shows an increase in the daily average of calls asking for help. In February this year they have registered 14 cases per day, while there were five taking place daily during the same month in 2020.
