WE CONTRIBUTE TO “MIRACULOUSLY” RESCUING A BOXER DOG

As part of the “Companimal” program and thanks to citizen denunciation we contributed to rescuing a boxer that showed a severe case of malnutrition.

Throughout 2020 and until January of this year, the Safety Line registered 8,715 reports related with animal mistreatment. Authorities, animal protection associations and the Citizen Council for Safety and Justice in Mexico City named “Miracle” the boxer that they rescued from the home where it lived and where it was disregarded in such a way that it showed a severe case of malnutrition.

After citizen denunciation and a coordination between authorities and the organism, through the program “Companimal”, “Miracle” is now safe and is receiving first-class veterinary care.

“Rescuing ‘Miracle’ proves the commitment authorities and civil organizations have made in favor of animal welfare but, above all, it shows that citizen denunciation is a fundamental tool in order to help pets that may be victims of mistreatment, abandonment or disregard for their care,” Salvador Guerrero Chipres, President of the Citizen Council said.

On January 27th neighbors of San Pedro El Chico, located at the Gustavo A. Madero mayoralty and the Refugio Franciscano association called the Safety Line 55 5533 5533 from the Council in order to report the boxer dog’s state. It was found inside a house, in a reduced space, without any water or food. Lawyers from the same organism began the denunciation process at the digital process of the General Attorney’s Office in Mexico City and on January 29th they went to the Specialized Unit of Environmental Crimes and Urban Protection.

With a search warrant, personnel of the Investigation Police, the Environmental and Territorial Planning Procurement Office (PAOT), the Animal Surveillance of the Citizen Safety Ministry, the Animal Attention Agency and the Citizen Council carried out the rescue.

During the procedure, a person was detained and taken to the Public Ministry, where he was linked to the process.

With the help of Refugio Franciscano, “Miracle” was taken to a veterinary clinic for a health check-up.

“Rescuing this Boxer dog shows the success citizen denunciation and interagency collaboration may have for society’s sake,” Guerrero Chipres added.

Between 2020 and January of this year, the Citizen Council registered 8,715 reports in the Companimal program and contributed with the establishment of over 200 investigation files.

About 14% of the calls come from the Cuauhtémoc mayoralty, 13% from Iztapalapa, 12% from Gustavo A. Madero, and 91% of the report were cases related with dogs or cats.
