Strengthen preventive measures in portals, strengthen direct communication against crime and support users with legal guidance and support
Within the framework of the Safe Internet Day, the Citizen Council for Security and Justice of Mexico City installed an articulation table that will be specified in the permanent dissemination of Security Line 55 5533-5533 in the trading platforms Digital Mercado Libre and Segundamano in order to prevent crimes of fraud and extortion.
During the presentation of this articulation, Salvador Guerrero Chiprés, president of the Citizen Council, informed that, of the reports that enter the Security Line and the Chat of Confidence related to problems related to the platforms, 92 percent refers to the car sale.
He explained that 75 percent of those who make the reports are men and 8 out of ten are around 25 years old. Of the total reports, 43 percent was consumed.
Accompanied by David Geisen, general director of Mercado Libre, and Ariel Cilento, general director of Segundamano, Guerrero Chiprés recognized that this alliance, between private initiative and citizens, represents a huge opportunity to act in favor of security.
Meanwhile, David Geisen, general director of Mercado Libre, said they are committed in this joint effort between private industry, citizens and government, to promote prevention, education and collaboration for secure online transactions. "This agreement is another effort to have a safe community where users can operate with confidence."
Ariel Cilento, General Director of Segundamano, mentioned that collaboration with the Citizen Council for the attention of potential victims of fraud and extortion will be essential, as well as proactive work in prevention.
In this first stage, the articulation table has as its main objective: to strengthen the dissemination of basic security measures in each of the platforms, and to establish a direct communication channel between the Citizen Council and each one of the platforms.
In this sense, Guerrero Chiprés recalled that the Citizen Council works in coordination with the Investigation Police (PDI) in a reference and counter-reference scheme to deal with high-impact cases, so the sum of the platforms will strengthen this work.
In addition to that the application No + Extortions will be made available to the platforms to locate numbers associated with possible fraud or extortion.
Likewise, the Citizen Council will make available to the users of the platforms the legal and psychological guidance service available through the Security Line and the Confidence Chat 55 5533-5533,
The Citizen Council, Mercado Libre and Segundamano reiterate the commitment to generate a culture of prevention and responsibility, so that users have the necessary information when conducting secure electronic commerce operations.
Among the measures that will be shared with platform users are:

● Avoid providing personal data beyond those required by the platforms to publish.
● Do not perform operations at home. If a visit is agreed, it is recommended that it be a public, busy, and daylight place.
● Do not trust the seller if you press to send the payment.
● Do not make cash payments.
● Avoid checks except for good collection and make transactions during bank working hours to verify the firm payment.
● Avoid depositing or being deposited via convenience stores
