The president of the organism, Salvador Guerrero Chipres, assures it offers counseling and receives denounces though its Safety Line and Trustworthy Chat 55 5533-5533.

Participating in the election, accepting the invitation to collaborate at polling stations, observing the process, reporting cases in which political propaganda has not been collected starting Thursday and denouncing electoral crimes such as coercion and buying votes, is what the Citizen Council for Safety and Justice in Mexico City asks citizens to do.

Within the context of the agreement established with the Electoral Institute in Mexico City and the General Attorney’s Office to share and observe, together with authorities, all the reports that are received at the Safety Line and Trustworthy Chat, 55 5533 5533, the organism, together with businesses, activists, journalists, professionals and public servants, considered that civic culture, understood as the defense of democratic values related with all the election process, is the basis of the citizen strengthening platform that will end next Sunday.

The President of the Citizen Council, Salvador Guerrero Chipres, highlighted that Mexico City is one of the safest entities with the least number of reports of electoral violence in the country and that elections will consolidate the democratic calling and peace that characterize the nation’s capital city.

“A concrete way in which we can commit with participation is by reporting whenever propaganda has not been retired from public streets, as is established by the law, taking of the one we might have at our homes and contributing with checking that all the election material is picked up and channeled to recycling processes,” the President of the Citizen Council added.

Citizens may call before, during and after Election Day on Sunday to denounce any odd situations they are victims of or that they witness, in order to receive council or in case of doubt regarding the definition of electoral crimes.

After the first four month-period of this year, the Executive Secretary of the Public Safety National System reports that there have been 564 denounces for electoral crimes, 79 of them in Mexico City.

A report by Etellekt shows that between September 2020 and May of this year, Veracruz, Oaxaca and Puebla add up 31% of aggressions or crimes against politicians, while Mexico City represents 3.4%.

“The construction of peace in a democratic state demands a committed and informed participation by all citizens, because crimes, violence and impunity in electoral matters are fought by voting and denouncing,” Guerrero Chipres insisted.

Among the electoral crimes the law foresees there are: taking over, destroying, changing voters IDs, normal lists, acts or election packages, demanding votes in Exchange for money, demanding evidence of a vote, voting with an ID that does not correspond to the voter or bringing voters on election day.

The Safety Line and Trustworthy Chat 55 5533-5533 offer free legal and psychological counseling 24/7 anywhere in the country; reports can be anonymous.
