WE CALL UPON RAPPERS TO BRING THEIR VOICES FOR PEACE

We published the announcement for “The Power of Lyrics for Peace” Freestyle contest. The first three places will win prices that range from 10 to 30 thousand pesos.

 The Citizen Council for Safety and Justice in Mexico City is organizing the rap contest “The Power or Lyrics for Peace”, which promotes the talent of young people in Mexico City and supports their creativity so that they use it in favor of peace.

Through the “freestyle battles” and following a raising awareness rap style, the participants will create lyrics in Spanish that promote respect for human rights, gender equality, non-violence, the procurement and justice and safety.

This contest offers an opportunity for young people who live in the different mayoralties so that they can use music to express themselves and send messages that help prevent social problems. All this is done through a positive attitude and rhymes that express and promote conducts of peace.

Young people are, by nature, agents of change in the capital city’s population. That’s how we must see them rather than as victims and victimizers in contexts of insecurity,” Salvador Guerrero Chipres, President of the Citizen Council stated.

This is the topic behind the battles that will take place on October 17^th at the Azcapotzalco mayoralty and on the 24^th in Iztapalapa.

The Citizen Council recognizes those who inspire others through their compositions and who show that rap is linked with giving messages that raise awareness to live in harmony.

Proposals reception ends on October 12^th 2020, so we invite all youngsters to participate. They must be 18 to 29 years old in order to be part of this rapping challenge.

Regulations are simple and they ask participants to make video, using an MP4 format, with a maximum duration of one minute, using improvisation and a free beat.

The first three places will be awarded with economical prizes on the Grand Final that will take place at the kiosk of Cuitlahuac Park at the Iztapalapa Mayoralty. 

The first place will win thirty thousand pesos; the second, seventeen thousand and the third, ten thousand.

The Citizen Council hopes that through a healthy competition young people from all the mayoralties can put their talents to the test and work to reach their dreams.

In this case we’ll fight against impunity and we’ll promote a civic culture to the rhythm of consciousness rap.
